“when I find something beautiful, … I just want you to see it too …”
Hatsukoi — 初恋 — “First Love”
YouTube user iGoffee LK has posted a series of “Unrequited love” video posts, one of which is “Hatsukoi” by the Little Great One, Hanako Oku.
“iGoffeeLK” has added scenes from various anime movies and plays the song over the video clips. I have not seen these particular anime, but they do all look interesting. There is some anime dialog and sound effects that (maybe) interfere a little with hearing the song, but this is easily ignored. In fact, it may add to this – the greatest of all unrequited love songs.
There are also lyrics in English, so you can easily follow along with the words sung in Japanese.
My friends and readers know that I am a fan of Hanako Oku. I know that many are not, but I hope that this week you will give this one a look if you have never heard her songs. Those of us that are Oku fans consider this one of her best.
The way she performs this, one can actually FEEL the “hurt” in her voice as she sings. The song is a good example of my observation that when I listen to Hanako Oku, “I am not sure if my heart is breaking, or if it is filled with joy”. It is both — at the same time. I can recall the pain of lost love, but I love experiencing HER experience.
This video post is a good way to enjoy the song. I am drawn in, and bound emotionally to the song. The feelings and memories it recalls then materializes.
When she gets to the line that translates as ““when I find something beautiful, … I just want you to see it too …”
I am reaching for the tissues. I’m pathetic.
Can you feel it too?
By the end of the song, the poor girl is pleading … and we know how that works in unrequited love situations …
I have also noticed that when Hanako Oku performs this song live, it drains her. She is usually crying by then end – as I am. I have to wonder if this song comes from her own experience. How could it not be?
Thank you “iGoffee LK” for choosing very appropriate scenes for the song.
Play the song, and read the lyrics. Feel the moment deeply – does it stir any memories – any emotions?
Have a nice morning, or afternoon or evening …
