Denny Sinnoh's "Akihabara Starlight"

From the Ippome Ondo

From the Ippome Ondo” clip

It is with great pleasure that I am re-blogging the MorningBerryz48 post on the AKB48 “Halloween Night” single. Many of you have seen the video clip before, however her Berryzness has also included a weath of photos and also included the “coupling songs” (“B-sides” to those of us who remember 45 records) which come with the different versions of the single/dvd.

Wow. Her post is better than any dissertation that I could write.

I especially love the Enka-song and dance for “Ippome Ondo”. I wanted to make my own special post for “Kimonos on Monday” with a preview video of the song, but you can view it here in its entirety! Photos too!

My brain almost exploded with happiness when I saw Haruka Kodama in the Under Girls “Sayonara Surfboard”.  Also if you watch Next Girls “Mizu no naka no dendouritsu” you get a pretty good answer to the question: “Is it soup yet?”!

… and so much more!!!

Go see for yourself. If you have been following my blog for the Jpop culture, you should follow MorningBerryz48.

  1. Thank you Denny for the reblog, you’re a sweetie~♡! One day you’ll need to explain to me about “soup”…?

    • “Is it soup yet” is a catch-phrase from the early 1990s. It is based on a soup commercial for one of those “homemade” packaged soup mixes where you just add your own meat and water.
In the commercial, a lady’s kids and husband keep asking her if dinner is ready with the “Is it soup yet?” line. After the commercial explains to the audience how rich — and so close to homemade — their brand of soup mix is, the woman finally brings the soup to the table and announces “It’s soup! …”.
The phrase was sometimes used in situations where you were working on a project for a long time, and people would repeatidly ask if it was ready. Oddly my son and I were just watching an episode of“Bill Nye The Science Guy” where someone asks about a chemical reaction “Is it soup yet?”

Try out the phrase today if you have to wait on something that seems to be taking a long time.(Only works on those who can remember the early 1990s).
      .
I thought maybe YouTube would have the original commercial, but all references to “Is it soup yet” were drug-related or not so nice.

I would say that the ladies in “Mizu no naka no dendouritsu” were making a very interesting broth.
      : )

Oh, I keep watching that goodbye-surfer song. Haruka Kodama … JUDAS PRIEST!!! (Denny gasping)

      • Thank you for explaining the soup dialogue so well!! I would’ve never made that connection =P….I so love how pop culture through so many venues can crossover into our every day mainstream. Famous quotes and references enlighten our lives so much and laughter and smiles for the soul help make life wonderful~♥.

I will attempt to use the phrase and not just today but I’m gonna perhaps puzzle some of my friends with “is it soup yet?” They already think I’m “weird” but hopefully in a good way so that’ll just aid in continuing the joke =P. But now someone may just know of it…..? Un girl x girl soup! Now I wonder if I were to ask one of my girl friends if they wanna make soup?…would they get the wrong impression LOL =)! Mmmm Haruppi~♥ indeed ^^.
