Pokémon Nicknames: Delibird

Delibird (in Japanese: デリバード  or just pronounced “Delibird”) is an ICE and FLYING dual-type introduced in Pokémon Generation II. It does not evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Delibird is the “Delivery Pokémon” which explains the “deli” part, in case you were thinking the corned-beef sandwiches kind of deli.

This Santa is packing some gifts for sure!

Delibird wears a Santa Clause outfit, and apparently has a feather beard. The beard is problematic for naming, as the male/female ratio is 50-50. There is some gremlin algorithm in my Sord and Shield games where the only Delibirds I encounter are female. When I do encounter a male, it always faints itself.

On the off chance I will encounter a male, I name it “Festivus” – after the made-up pseudo-Christmas holiday introduced in the TV Series Seinfeld.

With that extra bit of challenge, let me proceed with my favorite names for this Christmas bird.

Santa Baby” is a good name for a female, as the song is best when sung by a woman.

I like to use “JustBearding” if I catch a female, as we can pretend that the beard is a fake. Note the term “beard” or “bearding”.

Thanks to this cosplay, I do not mind a female Delibird. I like to think that maybe I will receive something nice.

New Deli” as a play on the name of the capital of India (New Delhi).

Hello Deli” after the New York city delicatessen often featured on the old David Letterman show.

N.D. Sack” which is a phrase you should always add to the end of ANY Chinese fortune cookie note.

X-mas Bill” because you are going to be gifted with a lot of bills after Christmas!

Speaking of mail, another user suggested “Going Postal” as a name. You see, working at the US Post Office is so stressful that some workers have been known to freak out. They start shooting random people with automatic weapons instead of just sorting and delivering the mail. Hence the American saying “going postal”.

Here we are between Christmas and New Years … I suppose you could name it “Kwanza” except no one knows what the hell that is.

Merry Christmas 2019!

The girls and I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!  Here is our special “Singing Christmas Card.”

Starlight: Merry Christmas 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 …

My first posts should just about now be reaching the recently discovered planet Barnard’s Star (planet) B. Merry Christmas to all beings on the distant “Super Earth”…

Hanako Oku and how it is so difficult to shop for some people.

Merry Christmas! Hey everyone – I have not posted in weeks due to being sunk in a swampland.  However, I want to pull myself up from the disgusting mire long enough to wish all my readers and WP friends a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

“Ya got all your Christmas shopping done yet?” Ha Ha. Kindly old people who are trying to make conversation often say that to me. Ahem … but perhaps I can provide a little shopping inspiration today. Here is The Little Great One’s Christmas Video released last month:

I think it is a very nice music video. I sometimes joke that “nothing really happens” in most Hanako Oku music videos. That may be what I like about them. She usually just walks around, in most of her music videos. It makes the listener concentrate on the music perhaps.

Great also songs inspire great covers. Here is one just released by the lovely and talented Hitomi Sano.

This got me into the shopping spirit alright! I wanted to send her something nice. Oh! — Her new song is the background music in this new commercial for SNOW.

Uh. although I’m not really sure what the lovely young woman is selling. Ideas for smartphone apps? Maybe. I though maybe Ms. Oku-san might enjoy these pantaloon-type puffy pants. They might be something she could wear around the studio.  She might find these useful for yoga, or for lounging at home and  of course — songwriting. Of course, one could wear these, relax at home, eat yogurt, and watch one of the Star-Wars movies that features Yoda … but I digress.

I chose this “Royal Blue” color. Might you suggest a different color choice?  I know that they are not Christmas colors – but I was thinking the hue might brighten up January. It would take a while to ship the pants to Chiba, so I thought that this color might brighten up a dreary day sometime next month for her. Much as the same way that her records cheer me up whenever I have to commute back and forth from the swamp.

I am also hoping that she will release a new album soon.

Ms. Oku-san will have one final singing engagement this year! There will be a free concert held on Sunday, December 23 at  4:00 in the afternoon at Yokohama Landmark Plaza 1st floor Sakata no Garden Square. Maybe a fan will film a little bit.

There will be CDs on sale of course, and there will even be a handshake opportunity!

(Denny choking up … yes, free open concert … to be able to shake those little hands … )

You can find more information more info on TLGO’s Twitter or her website

Starlight: I figure it would take me less than a day to get to Cleveland. Then from there it is a 16 hour direct flight to Yokohama. Assuming I am not going to stop in Hokkaido. Of course you waste half a day on both ends of the flight due to airport waiting, etc. Then I would need some time to check into a hotel.  Plus, Japan is “12 hours ahead” in the Japan time zone …Yep — I can be there by the 23rd!

Oh, wait — now I see what the app does.

“What I got for Christmas” Part XXVII: LEGO Ninjago figures!

What I got for Christmas, Part 27: Ninjago figures!

ninja IMG_0072

Kai … the Red Ninja. These new BLACK uniforms are a little more “ninja” like. Otherwise, why would a sneaky ninja wear a bright red outfit? These are the black and color “Possession” uniforms from the last Ninjago cartoon story-arc and LEGO play sets.  Don’t fall for cheap Chinese knock-offs.

ninja IMG_0077

Cheap Chinese knock-offs might be OK for handbags, but don’t try pawning fake LEGO-figures off on Master Wu! Oh, wait … isn’t the Ninjago leader Chinese?

Now “Ninjas” are Japanese, but their master — Sensei  Wu is Chinese?… or maybe even Vietnamese? … Shoot, he might even be Thai, I’m not really sure. Does he practice Confucianism or Zen Buddhism?  Is he both Chinese/Japanese … is there really any difference? I am not enough of an expert on flute music to be able to tell the difference.

It does not matter if you are Scottish-American or Irish-American, because it is “all the same thing.” Aye, laddie — eat your Lucky Charms.

Ya see … it is not so easy, is it? Now just enjoy playing with your LEGOs.

It is fun to document your play battles on film. Now if only I had the patience to create a “stop animation” video.

Sometimes I buy the whole playset just to get the one figure.

Starlight: Only 352 shopping days until next Christmas!

KIMONOS ON MONDAY (Week #32): Happy Christmas Kimonos!

Thank you for emailing the photo of your lovely Christmas furisode my dear ... er, cousin.

Thank you for emailing the photo of your lovely Christmas furisode my dear … er, cousin.

Merry Christmas everyone! This week, we will view some Christmas themes on kimonos!  Look how much fun and beauty these lovely women are adding to the decor of the Christmas season.  Thank you, ladies — whoever you are!  You have made this elf especially jolly.

I think that bright red is a great choice for a kimono or furisode.  The colors of Christmas seem to fit well.  Christmas kimonos are also a great opportunity to experiment with some different patterns.  Kimono gowns are also pretty in Christmas patterns. Here are two good ideas:
