Pokémon Nicknames: Stufful and Bewear

partofcorocoro9162

Today on “Pokémon Nicknames”, I consider Stufful and Bewear. (Denny knocks Sapporo beer can over, but picks it up quickly with little spillage): Oops … sorry … I’m a klutz, and sometimes have a hard time holding onto items. No I’m not drunk … Oh .. right (Denny in stilted falsetto): Alola … er …ALOLA COUSINS! Today I will suggest nicknames for two cute, cuddly – but DANGEROUS Pokémon.

Be warned … or “Be Ware” – ha ha, because I have a mind … that wanders …

On the Bulbapedia web site it says that Stufful (in Japanese: ヌイコグマ  “Nuikoguma”) is a Normal + Fighting dual-type Pokémon. Stufful is the “Flailing Pokémon” supposedly because it would flail around its cute stuffed-animal-like arms. Many Pokémon fans like to buy plush dolls of their favorite Pokémon. Maybe it is time for a Pokémon that is already a stuffed animal!

Stufful even has a tag!

A cute name might be “Socks” or “Sock Buddy” … (hic)

Stufful evolves into Bewear (in Japanese: キテルグマ  “Kiteruguma”) at level 27, where it remains a Normal + Fighting dual-type. Beware is the “Strong Arm” Pokémon. Bulbapedia says: “While Bewear may appear friendly, it is actually a very dangerous Pokémon. It must never be approached carelessly, even if it is merely swinging its arms around in a friendly fashion. It shows affection with a fond embrace, but its hugs have incredible force.” The story goes that many trainers have been severely injured, and some were even killed by Beware’s loving hugs.

Stufful is the perfect Pokémon for those of us who love Japanese Popular Culture! Its ears even look like those “headband ears” which are so popular with cosplayers, maid café goers, Japanese schoolgirls and/or the otaku of the Akihabara district of Tokyo.  Cat (neko) ears are probably the most common headband ears, but mouse, fox, bear or other fuzzy animal ears are also common.

Her cosplay ears are the biggest giveaway that she would love to meet and date a fellow nerd like you!

You should use Tokyo Pop Culture type names for the Pokémon. Names like “Akihabara”, “Shibuya”, or “Harajuku” would be appropriate. I also named one of these bears “Otaku”. “Yuri” or “Yoai” would also be fun, if you enjoy those genres of anime and/or manga.

 stuffbearimg_0302

Stufful is a plush doll, so maybe you could use “Doll Parts” after the song by the 1990s alt-rock band Hole (linked here). Cutesy names like “I Wuv You” , “Cuddles” or “Fuzzy Wuzzy” should also work when you bear evolves. “Huggie Bear” is based on the archtypical and quintesential “pimp” character from the 1970s TV police series “Starsky and Hutch“.

A good name would be “Gyu” or “Gyu Gyu Gyu” which is loosely translated as “hugs” or “squeezes”. It is one of those Japanese words which do not translate directly into English. When you give someone a hug there is that wonderful moment, when the hug “becomes a hug” and the mutual feeling of love is exchanged — Gyu!

Another Japnese pop culture name might be “Moe” which loosely describes affectionate aspects of otaku culture.

A good name for a fighting-type I have used is “Hold-My-Beer“. Speaking of …

The Pokémon pink color is off course very “kawaii” but the bright pink is juxtaposed with dark brown portions of its body.  This combination put me off at first, but I understand it is popular, and I have learned to love it.

stuffbearimg_0295

This color juxtaposition led me to name one of my party Pokémon “PinkAndStink”.

(Denny turns to drinking buddies): You know guys, “the pink” is about the most wonderful thing that there is in this existence. It also is located in very close proximity to “the stink”.  (Gulps) They are both delightful in their own ways … (Sapporo can drops again, but is quickly put upright) … they both have their own unique charms. You may have directed yourself to the pink. You probably spend most of your time there, and the points north, but don’t tell me you have not also explored the stink. There is also that wonderful, sensitive border area, right in between the pink and the stink. You can tell a lot about a lady by how well she manages that marchland … You don’t have to be a conquering hero, but it is a great way to bond with her. You might even end up surprising yourself.

Oh … right … Pokémon names … (Denny raises hand, orders another Sapporo).

A Pokémon with Fluffy takes half damage from moves that make contact. It also takes double damage from Fire-type moves. Fire-type moves that make contact will deal regular damage. (Bulbapedia)

What is the name for your stuffed bear? Please comment!

Unboxing Hanako Oku’s 10th Anniversary Special Concert 2015 Blu-Ray set with Snivy, Tepig and Oshawatt.

Unboxing Hanako Oku’s 10th Anniversary Special Concert 2015 Blu-Ray set with Snivy, Tepig and Oshawatt.

Snivy’s order from CD-Japan has arrived! It is hard to get these three Unova Region starter Pokémon to agree on anything – but they all wanted to watch this blu-ray set of Hanako Oku’s big concert. This is the FIRST TIME that a Hanako Oku concert has been available on blu-ray! The great thing about blu-ray is that is that the discs will play on a Region-A BD player! No more hassles with DVD Region 2 being incompatible with Unova DVD players! OK guys, get unboxing!

box875IMG_0108

Go Snivy! Use VINE WHIP!

box875IMG_0114

I know how he feels: The little guy was so eager — he dived right into the box!

box875IMG_0109

Oh Tepig — you can play with that bubble-wrap later!

box875IMG_0111

Yes, Oshawatt — it is a Blu-Ray, and you are a WATER TYPE — so what’s the connection again?

box875IMG_0121

They were all so excited about the contents!

box875IMG_0113

No, Oshawatt … you spin the disc in the Playstation 3, not on your TAIL!

box875IMG_0117

Snivy was so proud. He said that holding the discs made him feel like he was hugging the real Hanako Oku!

box875IMG_0120

Maybe set a little farther away from the TV, Snivy! It is amazing to see close-ups of Miss Oku on our 46-inch TV. The picture is great, and it sounds very good considering they are just the stock TV speakers.

Snivy commented further that Hanako Oku and her band are “Fun to watch and just listen to while playing.” Tepig said “She looks beautiful.” Oshawatt says “She is super-cute in those pantaloons!”

I agree with Snivy, I think The Little Great One looks very pretty and exquisitely feminine throughout these performances. “What a nice lady …” Tepig added, “I respect her a lot.”

box875IMG_0115

Oshawatt likes the cover. (He is just pretending he knows how to read music.) We all enjoyed watching both discs. The marketing geniuses at PonyCanyon Records have banned Hanako Oku music videos in the Unova Region, so I guess we will have to rely more on Blu-Ray concert videos from now on.

The guys had a lot of fun unboxing, playing, listening, and swooning over Hanako Oku. We even watched her rehearsals that were in the BD Special Features.

During the encore, she sings “Happy Day” and walks out into the audience and high-fives everyone. I will say that she talks to the audience a lot … and explains the songs before playing them. Oh, I wish I had a better understanding …

The whole band is pretty cool, and they all get thanks and introductions. I especially enjoyed the live string section.

There is also a Hanako Oku narrated track! You can listen to the concert, but on track 2, Miss Oku describes the concert.

My Pokémon hope Hanako Oku will release more material on Blu-Ray!

box875IMG_0118

Hey, wait … what happened to Tepig? Did anyone see where he went?

Pokémon Nicknames: Cherubi and Cherrim

Pokémon Nicknames: Cherubi and Cherrim

Indeed, you have incredible skills, Miss Ludens, but could you please bring me my cough drops when you finish that?

Cherubi (in Japanese: チェリンボ  “Cherinbo”) is a GRASS-type Pokémon. Cherubi is known a “the Cherry” Pokémon. The following is a direct quote from Bulbapedia:

“Cherubi is a small cherry-like Pokémon with a round, deep-pink body with two stubby feet. It has beady eyes and a purple-red stripe running down part of its face. Cherubi has a short stem with two big, green leaves and a second, much smaller head growing out of it. This second head is vestigial in terms of function, but it contains nutrients that contribute to Cherubi’s growth as its initial source of food. As the second head is apparently edible, several Pokémon have been seen trying to pluck it off. When the second head begins to bloom it means Cherubi is close to evolving. It has been known to sun bathe on warm days. When it is about to evolve, the second head starts to wilt. Cherubi mainly photosynthesizes, and it is attracted to honey.”

Cherubi evolves into Cherrim starting at level 25. Cherrim (in Japanese: チェリム  “Cherrim”) remains a GRASS-type. Cherrim It is known “the Blossom” Pokémon – it changes its appearance in sunny weather.

evolution chart Cherrim

The following is again quoted from Bulbapedia:

“Cherrim is a small Pokémon with two different forms, both of which are dependent on the weather. During normal weather conditions, Cherrim is in its Overcast Form. Two purple petals enclose its deep pink body. A short purple stem and a green leafy sepal sprout from the top of the petals. Its eyes appear to be near its short legs in this form.

When there is strong sunlight, Cherrim is in its Sunshine Form.

pokemon_cherrim_by_xxfruit_cakexx

Everyday is a “Sunny Day” with you, my dear cherry girl!

Pink petals similar to cherry blossoms surround its head and cover its chest. Several of the petals radiate outward from a yellow sphere on the back of its head. There is a small, triangular patch of green on its neck. Additionally, two berry-like orbs, resembling cherry-shaped hair ornaments, adorn its head. It has stubby limbs, with the arms being pink and the legs being yellow.

Cherrim waits quietly as a bud for a ray of sunlight. When it is hit with strong sunlight, it blooms and absorbs the rays with its entire body. It quickly changes from quiet to excitable and active. It will attempt to make up for everything it had to endure as a bud while the sunlight lasts. Once the light is gone, Cherrim folds back into a bud.”

plush cherrim

Obviously a nickname for female Cherrubi/Cherrim would be “Sakura” – Japanese for Cherry Blossoms. AUHHH … (Denny sighs) … Oh, my lovely daughter Sakura Miyawaki …she has grown up so fast these past few months …. Ok, I digressed.

june-2015-issue-featuring-covergirl-miyawaki-sakura-61

Yes, you look amazing in your “Sunshine Form” Sakura-tan!

Oh, right — good nicknames you search for: I think that “Maraschino” is a great name for males, as in Maraschino cherries.

“Cherry-on-Top” could be used. How about “Wild Cherry” or “Wild Bill” as possible names? How about “Buster” as in … well, you know.

“Cherry Coke” may be good, but watch out for that company’s lawyers.

“Virginity” or “My Virginity” may be a playful nickname. (You know why.)

I have named them “Ludens” or “Miss Ludens” after the famous “Wild Cherry” flavor cough drops.

(I could really use one writing this just now.) Since Cherrim is two cherries, males could be named “Smith Broths.” – after the other major brand of cough drops.

“WhiteHouse” is also one of my suggestions, based on the ice cream. The WhiteHouse ice cream flavor is white vanilla ice cream with red cherries. The reason it is called “WhiteHouse” is because of the Cherry Blossom trees which characterize Washington DC. The white ice cream is the same shade of white as governmental buildings such as the Lincoln Memorial or the White House.

afterthisimgettingicecream

When the going gets tough … go out for ice cream!

My favorite name for Cherrubi is “Sherry” or “Sherry Baby” as in the old Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons song “Sherry Baby.”

It may be a stretch, but I have also named male Cherrum FrankieVallihoping someone would see the connection.

“… I wanna make you mine-yine-yine …”
